The top 10 directories?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I can't really be bothered with submitting our sites to all the directories out there. Most of them will bring nothing IMHO.

If you were to limit your submissions to just 10 of the best, which ones would you cover. (I'm after ones where you can submit for free.)

You don't have to provide a list of all 10. I'd just like to get an idea of those ones which everyone here feels are a definite 'must'.

Thanks.

What I suggest is to find a few good directories with high PR. Directories with high PR shall help you get quality backlinks and that you be useful for you in Google. In terms of traffic, I guess a few people search directories as most of them rely on Google or Yahoo.

One more point: Blog commenting are becoming more popular than directory submission so better try to focus on blog commenting.

Here are a couple top ten directory lists I ran across. I don't know if I fully agreee with them, but this may be a good place to start if you are trying to get listed on some good sites with a lot of exposure.

I would start off here if you are trying to find a directory with nothing but quality listings and is kept up to date, not to mention one that google loves - http://massivelinks.com

Here are the others :

http://www.seoconsultants.com/directories/

That's a great list. Thank you for sharing that list. I'll pass it onto my client who uses directories all of the time. Hehe, I think I should tell him about this place also because it might help him out some since he has around 70 websites :)

I agree with jr_sci. Directories with good and acceptable PR do matter a lot in terms of traffic. Submission to such directories will help us a lot.

If I were to do directory submissions I'd concentrate on niche directories rather than general directories. If the section of the general directory you are looking at submitting to is cached and has a PR, then that would be something to consider.

I think niche directories and general directories have different roles to play. Both are efficacious I believe in driving potential traffic to the submitted sites.

dmoz and lii.org are the best free directories i guess.

and blog commenting is better.

It seems really hard to get onto Dmoz these days. I have never heard anything back from them.

I don't believe you would actually hear anything from them. I don't recall getting any kind of notice when my sites were added.
