How do you re direct a forum to a new URL?

Recommended Posts

I want to change my forum from www.brand-newhomes.co.uk.forum.smf/  (loads of pages!!)

to my new sub domain

I have tried this in the .htaccess file

RewriteEngine on
Redirect permanent /forum/smf
but the home page is not re directing.

I tried:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/forum/smf/index.php http://forum.brand-newhomes.co.uk/

but this worked:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/buying_brand_new_home_initial_considerations.htm http://forum.brand-newhomes.co.uk/
So presumably the first part ^/forum/smf/index.php or /forum/smf  is wrong.

What I cannot do is do a separate redirect for each and every post - all 1500 of them!

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this?

What if you did:

RewriteEngine on
Redirect permanent /forum/smf/ http://forum.brand-newhomes.co.uk/
This is similar to your first attempt but you forgot the / at the end of the first part and you forgot the to part.

Thanks WW this redirects everything to the home page.

I hope it will work for all the individual posts once I have set up the database with the new forum.

I tried to reply to thank you in the other post I made but it wouldnt work.

Anyway Thanks again, I used the .htaccess method to block the spam referrals.
